Safety-In-Use (SIU)

  • All SIU studies have a common design theme: distribute test product to a panel of volunteers who then use the product at home as directed. Volunteers are evaluated by a board-certified physician prior to enrollment on the study and at each visit to the testing facility. While the study is in progress, participants keep a daily diary in which they record their comments and opinions about the product, giving particular attention to safety issues such as stinging, burning, itching, breakout, etc.
  • The major distinction among SIU studies are the demographics of the study populations (for example, age, gender, ethnicity) and the medical specialty of the physician under whose supervision the study is conducted. At RCTS, we conduct SIUs in the areas of:
    • Dermatology
    • Ophthalmology
    • Gynecology
    • Pediatrics
